What can I use the Rotunda Patient Transfer Aid for?
The Rotunda patient transfer aid (sometimes also called a patient turner) is a sit-to-stand-to-sit, on the spot transfer aid that has been designed to help carers with the moving and handling of people. It is used to safely assist patients from a seated position, on a bed, sofa or wheelchair into a standing position, and to another seated position. It makes the manual handling of people much easier for the carer and more comfortable and dignified for the patient, giving them a greater sense of independence.
Do I need to be trained to use the Rotunda Patient Transfer Aid?
The Rotunda is a very simple to use transfer aid and does not require any formal training. However we do recommend that before operating the Rotunda the instructions should be read and fully understood. You can watch our video which demonstrates how to safely use the Rotunda.
Note: In all instances a Risk Assessment should be completed to determine if a Rotunda is suitable for and safe to use in your particular application.
In what circumstances should I purchase the Rotunda Accessories?
Advice provided by The Medical Devices Agency suggests;
The Standard Rotunda is designed for users who can weight bear.
If the user has trouble standing/weight bearing then a knee support should be used. Knee supports can be ordered with the Rotunda at the time of purchaseor retro-fitted onto an existing frame.
Is the Rotunda shipped ready to use?
Yes we ship the Rotunda fully assembled so that it is ready to use. All you need to do is remove the packaging, read the instructions and you are ready to go.
Does the Rotunda Patient Transfer Aid require a high level of maintenance?
No, the Rotunda has been designed to require minimal maintenance although as with any load bearing equipment it should be inspected on a regular basis for signs of wear and tear.
How do I clean the Rotunda?
The Rotunda has been coated with a special paint designed specifically for use in a hospital environment. It can be cleaned with detergents used for hospital cleaning and if used in the home, with warm water and mild detergent using a damp cloth.
Can I use the Rotunda Patient Transfer Platform in my own home?
Yes, the Rotunda can be used in a home environment. Since 1987 we have sold the Rotunda Patient Transfer Platforms to many private individuals who are looked after by a carer in their own home. The wheels on the base make it a very portable piece of moving and handling equipment and it is easy to manoeuvre over all types of floor coverings.
The Rotunda has been designed to fit through a standard door frame.

There are several different types of patient transfer aids on the market what makes the Rotunda different?
The Rotunda was the first moving and handling aid of its kind on the market. It is manufactured and assembled from metal components which are all made in our factory in Haverhill. Each Rotunda is handmade by a team of dedicated employees who have been making them for over 27 years; there are very few products that you can say that about these days!
Our Rotunda is made from premium steel rather than aluminium which means it is very sturdy and strong and definitely built to last. Do not get caught out by imitations of the Rotunda patient transfer aid.
Can I use the Rotunda Transfer Platform to move a patient from one area to another?
No. The Rotunda is designed to assist the transfer of a patient from one seated position to another - it should never be used to transport patients.
Note: The Rotunda is a transfer aid - not a transport aid.
What is the maximum patient weight that the Rotunda can take?
All Rotunda Patient Transfer Aids have a maximum turntable weight of 39 stone.
The Bariatric Rotunda is for larger patients and is ideal for bariatic patient handling. The frame is an extra 100mm wide and again it has a maximum turntable weight of up to 39 stone.
Is the Rotunda Patient Transfer Aid guaranteed?
Yes, the Rotunda comes with a 12 month guarantee against manufacturing and material defects.
Do I need to a pay VAT on the Rotunda?
If you are eligible for VAT Exemption under the Notice 701/7 VAT reliefs for disabled people then you do not need to pay VAT.
You will be required to complete and submit a VAT Exemption Form to us before we can accept your order. Please contact us for more information about placing your order.
If you are not eligible for VAT Exemption then you will be required to pay VAT on your purchase at the current rate.
How long does it take to deliver a Rotunda?
Please allow up to 7 days from the time you place your order to delivery for the Standard, Bariatric and High frame Rotundas.
